GLOUCESTER HOUSE
Concept for a new house on a rural site: located on a grassy & gently sloping five acre block, the design responds to the local view lines & the featureless openness of the site.
To define some space on the open site, a rectangular flat area is defined by retaining walls. The house sits on this defined area with an orchard & vegetable garden, & are designed to work as parts of one whole. The openness of the site is balanced by using the rectangle of land to define a smaller space for the house & gardens, with some smaller areas of space enclosed within that. Dramatic local mountains are featured by specific windows & sightlines.
